Why use Math By Miles (MBM)?

There are many online resources like YouTube available for students, so you might be wondering if Math By Miles is worth paying for. Notice that MBM is not a static repository of videos or resources; it is a dynamic platform where students and expert tutors can connect to tackle problems ranging from the simplest to the most complex. This is done on a flexible, stress-free, question-by-question basis. Also, the more you use the platform, the more familiar we get with your particular goals!

What subjects do you cover?

We cover math only, and can help with anything ranging from the simplest arithmetic to beginning graduate school. In practice, this means we can help you with algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, statistics and probability, calculus I, II, and III, differential equations, discrete math, linear algebra, abstract algebra, and real analysis.

Who is Miles?

I started Math By Miles and am also the head tutor. I studied math at UC Berkeley and University of Nebraska – Lincoln at the undergraduate level, with a few graduate courses sprinkled in here and there, and I have BS in Mathematics. I started Math By Miles because I would have loved to have a similar resource during my high school and college days to count on when the going got tough. You can find me on Quora and Math Stack Exchange!

How can I use Math By Miles for free?

Math By Miles offers a 7-day free trial for both the monthly and yearly plans. Check out the pricing page for more info. This is an easy way to test out whether you like what we have to offer, and, if you don’t, just cancel before the 7 days are up!

But why don’t you just make the site free?

Because we would then get *swamped* with too many questions with not enough time to answer them all. Payment not only allows tutors to do this part-time, but it also helps with supply and demand: if it were free, there’d be too many questions, and if it were too expensive, there’d be no questions to answer. There’s a sweet spot in the middle!

$33 per month is too expensive!

Look at it this way: in-person and online tutors usually charge 40 to 100 bucks per hour (!). Now, what do you get with Math By Miles? You get to ask unlimited questions to expert tutors whenever, wherever you want. No scheduling and no hassle. All for only 33 bucks per month (!).

What’s the difference between the monthly and yearly plans?

The monthly plan, at $33 each month, is more flexible, while the yearly plan is much cheaper, giving you 5 free months per year and saving you 45%!

How do you make math look pretty in the question editor?

We use a typesetting tool called LaTeX that makes boring math, like E = MC^2, look pretty. All you have to do is put the math you want to type into two dollar signs, i.e. `$E = MC^2$`

. Click the button up there to ask a question, and try it out! If you want to know more, which you definitely should, check this reference guide out.

I’m nervous about giving some random web people my credit card info.

We never actually see your credit card info. We’re using Stripe, an online payment processor similar to PayPal, so your transaction is handled by the secure servers of another company that specializes in secure internet payments. As soon as you click “Get Instant Access Now,” your connection is encrypted and totally secure. All the processor server tells us is your email, name, last four digits, and that you’ve paid. They don’t tell us any of your credit card info, and they handle all the monthly payments as well.
